Hi,
My name is Erik, and I'm the founder or Marmoit, my store for the most beautifully hand crafted rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces on earth. I'd like to tell you more about what's happening here and why.

Early Life and Influences

My single mother raised my brother and I after immigrating to the United States from Germany in the late sixties. My father was a US serviceman in the Army and stationed where my mother lived. They married and returned to the US, and I was born. They divorced when I was four, and from then on I was raised by my mother.

I always remember my mother being this gracefully elegant woman who always looked stunning no matter the occasion. She had a supreme sense of quality and tasteful design, which throughout my life, has really influenced me. She also taught me how things should always look just right. Like me, my mother was also an entrepreneur. She started out as a real estate agent selling homes and eventually owned a travel agency for many years. I always liked looking at the travel literature in her office of all the fantastic places to visit around the world. I would dream of being able to see some of these places someday. Fortunately that dream has come true, multiple times.

Fast forward a few years. I became an aircraft mechanic, private pilot, and aviation business owner. You can say I'm a big aviation nerd. My aviation business has allowed me to continually travel to many foreign places. I love being able to see how other people live by observing and learning their customs and traditions. I also get to see their fashion styles too.

My lightbulb moment.

During my travels, I'd make it a point to always get something unique for my wife. Usually, a woman's accessory because they don't take up too much space and are not too heavy. She is always amazed at what I bring home. I’m able to find women's accessories that are cheerful and charming yet chic and striking.

I spot brilliantly executed designs and constructions created by master artisans. I search out meticulous workmanship with a high commitment to quality. It is always exciting to go shopping in other countries and bring home new and stylish jewelry. Undoubtedly I procure some of the most unique rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.

My wife always gets many compliments on my practical yet luxurious choices. Her friends would ask that on future trips I could bring home jewelry for them too! And that's when it dawned on me that I may have a new business. So I started Marmoit. But that's not the only reason for this business.

Through this business (and my other businesses) I can help support animal welfare projects.

I regularly donate to The Barn On Baseline animal shelter and adoption center in Genoa, Illinois and I support PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving), a Chicago-based effort to end euthanasia for cats and dogs. By donation, my two dogs have been in the PAWS desk calendar for the last two years. I also support wildlife rehabilitation. I have helped to save orphaned raccoons, baby birds, and injured geese. I'm crazy for critters you might say. But this is part of my core values. It's who I am and what I do. As fate has it, today I'm able to pursue my three most passionate things in life: Business, Travel, and Animals.
