Our first rooftop garden was born as a kind of joke - up above our office. in the small court-yard of a condominium, in the city center, few steps far from the central train station.

« We could put some waterproof coating instead of the ugly tar sheath…draining panels and a soil layer… we could learn how to grow vegetables and then seed lettuce, tomatoes, fennels… we could involve other residents, work all together and then share the crop… ».

We called it Oursecretgarden, because everyone who came to visit seemed to find some kind of magic in that small vegetable garden hidden from the street.
But our garden didn’t stay secret for long…
It tooks only a press release with a picture of the garden, to call journalists, Tvs and a lot of curious neighbors, attracted by a project that aimed to transform a neglected urban space in a small piece of countryside, a new natural habitat where birds nest and fresh vegetables grow: a shared community garden that also provides an effective coating roof and reduce our energy demand. Oursecretgarden has been open to the public since 2010, so far receiving up to 2000 visitors and students from local schools. The story of Oursecretgarden has been told by many newspapers, magazines, documentaries and TV programs. Researchers and students working on sustainable development have written about it, and the project won the prestigious award « Innovazione Amica dell’Ambiente » by Legambiente, and in 2012 it was selected among the «10 Best Private Plots», by the Austrian award for garden
design.

Imagine a vegetable garden on the roof of your house or office. Imagine to grow it with your neighbors or colleagues. Imagine even a super-market with a rooftop garden, grown by employees and clients, where you could buy your vegetables. Imagine these gardens, where you could bring your children, have parties with your neighbors, organize all sort of activities… Imagine if your house, school, library, supermarket, could save energy, improve the quality of the air you breathe and recycle household

This is OrtiAlti, our new service created to design and build grown gardens on urban buldings of public interest, inhabited or used by small communities. We will help people growing their own rooftop garden, organizing recreational and educational activities open to everybody, promoting benefits and creating a network of green spaces in dense urban areas in order to improve the life quality in our cities.
OrtiAlti addresses a wide and varied audience, interested in up-to-date, urgent topics such as re-use, energy saving, 0 km food chain, organic products, eco-sustainability, co-housing. It is a sustainable service, because it can intercept individuals, public organizations or enterprises aiming to get significant benefits, return of image and customer base growth from a relatively small and quickly amortizable investment – also considering subsidies or tax relieves for energy improvements and greening interventions.
OrtiAlti offers a set of services diversified and complementary thanks to a multidisciplinary team. Young architects, landscapers, agronomists, facilitators, communication creatives, but also private companies working on hanging green technologies and universities’ departments: a team of professionals interested in promoting and supporting the project because of its impact on the urban environment’s improvement.
